Rapid Test

Detection of urease activity indicates presence of Helicobacter pylori in antrum specimen collected by endoscopy procedure.

Specimen Requirements

1. Obtain gastric biopsy (antrum) specimen by endoscopy.

2. Inoculate biopsy into rapid urea transport medium.

3. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), Social Security number or date of birth (inpatients:  medical record number), date and time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.

4. Forward promptly at ambient temperature.
