Methodology

Flocculation Test

All reactive rapid plasma reagin test specimens are forwarded to a Reference Laboratory for confirmatory testing and titer.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:


Serum

Container/Tube:  Plain, red-top tube(s) or serum gel tube(s)

Volume:  1 mL of serum

Transport Temperature:  Ambient only

Collection Instructions:  Do not remove serum from primary clot tube. Forward promptly.

Note:  Label specimen appropriately (serum).

 

Plasma

Container/Tube:  Lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) - Not acceptable for confirmatory testing if reactive.

Volume:  1 mL of EDTA plasma

Transport Temperature:  Ambient only

Collection Instructions:  Forward promptly.

Note:  Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
